Don’t be in a hurry, wait on God and he will speak in his own time

In Jeremiah 39 the King of Babylon had captured Jerusalem and Zedekiah the King just like Jeremiah had prophesied.

Jer 39:6 “Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes at Riblah; the king of Babylon also slew all the nobles of Judah. He then blinded Zedekiah’s eyes and bound him in fetters of bronze to bring him to Babylon. The Chaldeans also burned with fire the king’s palace and the houses of the people and they broke down the walls of Jerusalem.”

This ruthless Babylonian king then appointed Gedaliah as a puppet ruler. Gedaliah was in turn killed in a local uprising. The people panicked and in desperation came to Jeremiah for help.

Jeremiah 39:18 -42:7 “Because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them. Since Ishmael……. Had struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land. Then all the commanders of the forces, Johanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people both small and great approached and said to Jeremiah the prophet, ‘Please let our petition come before you…..that the Lord God may tell us the way in which we should walk and the thing that we should do.’ Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them ‘I have heard you. Behold. I am going to pray to the Lord your God in accordance with your words; and I will tell you the whole message which the Lord will answer you, I will not keep back a word from you.’……
Now at the end of ten days the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.”

Those ten days must have seemed like a lifetime to Jeremiah when the people were breathing down his neck for an answer. However, he was willing to wait until God had spoken.

God can and will communicate through anything/ anyone even our enemies!

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways. Hebrews 1:1

The use of an animal in Numbers 22 is a good example of how God can communicate through anything! Balaam was told plainly by God not to go and put a curse on the Israelites, but he did not listen. He was swayed by the prospect of financial reward and decided to go ahead anyway. God sent his angel to slay Balaam who was saved by his ass who squashed his foot against a wall and then lay down. The animal then opened its mouth and spoke to him. Balaam’s spiritual eyes were then opened and he saw the angel who was about to kill him. Fortunately, due to the ass, the angel then spared his life and gave him a warning from God!

Josiah was God fearing man and one of the greatest reforming kings in the history of Israel. Neco the king of Egypt was his enemy. In 2 Chron 35:21 Neco “Sent messengers to him (Josiah) saying, ‘What quarrel is there between you and me, O king of Judah? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.’” Josiah the king failed to recognise that it was God speaking through Pharaoh and was consequently killed!
